The department was established in 1972 on the basis of the Bukhara branch of the former Tashkent Polytechnic Institute. The department has been headed by Prof. M.N. Rakhmatov, Prof. M.T. Toshev, Prof. S.Kh. Astanov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences M.Z. Sharipov, and Candidate of Technical Sciences Associate Professor O.S. Komilov. Currently, the head of the department is PhD in Physics and Mathematics, G.K. Kasimova.
The "Physics" Department was officially established on October 6, 1972, on the basis of the former Tashkent Polytechnic Institute’s Bukhara branch.

Currently, the department employs Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor S.Kh. Astanov, M. Sharipov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor O.S. Komilov, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Z.R. Ashurov, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor M.R. Jumaev, Associate Professor M. Vakhobova, PhD in Physics and Mathematics G.K. Kasimova, senior lecturers D.N. Khayitov and U.N. Islomov, as well as assistants M. Turdiev, L. Jo‘raeva, M. Akhrorova, J. Majitov, D. Ro‘zieva, I. Raupova, and B. Fayzieva. Doctoral students of the department are conducting research on various topics.
The department operates educational laboratories such as "Mechanics and Molecular Physics," "Electricity and Magnetism," "Optics," and "Atomic and Nuclear Physics." Under the guidance of professors and associate professors, research is also being carried out in the "Non-Traditional Energy" educational and scientific production laboratory and the "Spectral Analysis" research laboratory.
The department has signed cooperation agreements with Academic Lyceum No. 1 under the Bukhara Engineering-Technological Institute, Shofirkon Agricultural Technical School, Secondary School No. 18 in Bukhara city, School No. 6 in Alat district, and School No. 12 in Vobkent district. Within this cooperation, the “teacher-student” mentorship tradition is being successfully implemented.

In the educational process, modern didactic tools and equipment, as well as advanced pedagogical and innovative teaching technologies and international educational practices, are actively applied to enhance the quality of teaching.

Under the scientific supervision of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences M.Z. Sharipov, research is being conducted in the field of spin reorientation phase transitions, studying the domain structure and magneto-optical properties of rare-earth ferrite garnets.

At the exhibition, under the supervision of Professor S.Kh. Astanov, research in the field of spectral analysis was presented with the product titled “Dried Apricot Pastila,” achieving excellent results.

Professor S.Kh. Astanov of the Department successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Photonics of Natural Dyes” in 2003. To date, he has obtained more than 15 patents for inventions in Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation and 14 certificates for electronic textbooks.

Currently, scientific research is being conducted in four main directions at the department

  1. Scientific direction of spectral analysis — research is being conducted under the supervision of Professor S.Kh. Astanov.

  2. Scientific direction of non-traditional energy — research is being conducted under the supervision of Associate Professor O.S. Komilov.

  3. Fluctuational and parametric phenomena in condensed and nano-sized systems — research is being conducted by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences M.R. Jumaev.

  4. Spin-reorientation phase transitions in rare-earth ferrite garnets: domain structure and magneto-optical properties — research is being conducted under the supervision of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences M.Z. Sharipov.
