The department was established in 1968. In 1975, it was named “Philosophy,” and in 1979 — “Political History.”
In 1980, three independent departments were created: “Philosophy,” “Political History,” and “Political Science and Law” (formerly “Scientific Communism”).
Since 1992, the departments of “Philosophy,” “History of Uzbekistan,” and “Political Science and Law” operated separately.
In 2005, these departments were merged and named the “Department of Social Sciences.”
From 2011 to 2013, it functioned as the “Department of History and Philosophy,” from 2013 to 2015 as the “Department of History,” and since 2015, it has operated under the name “Department of History of Uzbekistan.”
In 2020, the department was again renamed the “Department of Social Sciences.” On September 1, 2024, as part of the structural changes within the Bukhara Engineering-Technological Institute (BMTI), it was merged with the “Department of Physical Culture” (which had been established in 1978 within the former Bukhara Institute of Food and Light Industry Technology, now the Bukhara Engineering-Technological Institute) and renamed the “Department of Social Sciences and Physical Culture.”
As of April 1, 2025, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. PQ-22 dated January 24, 2025, the “Department of Social Sciences and Physical Culture” was incorporated into the structure of the newly established Bukhara State Technical University.
