Due to changes in the internal structure of the institute in 2024, the Department of “Water Resources Management and Melioration” was reorganized into the Department of “Irrigation and Melioration.” In accordance with Order No. 488-12 dated September 20, 2024 of the Rector of the Bukhara Institute of Natural Resources Management of TIIAME NRU, the Department of “Irrigation and Melioration” was established. From September 2024, due to changes in the internal structure of the institute, the departments of “Water Resources Management and Melioration” and “Water-Saving Irrigation Technologies” were optimized and reorganized into the Department of “Irrigation and Melioration.” By Resolution No. PQ-22 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated January 24, 2025 “On the establishment of Bukhara State Technical University,” the name of the Department of “Irrigation and Melioration” was retained without change.

Since 2010, the department has operated under the name “Water Management and Melioration,” since 2021 as “Water Resources Management and Melioration,” and later as “Irrigation and Melioration.” From 2024, the Department of Irrigation and Melioration received the status of a specialized department training qualified specialists in the following fields: 60811200 – Water Management and Melioration; 60811500 – Water Supply Engineering Systems (Bachelor’s degree programs); 70811202 – Melioration and Irrigated Agriculture; 70811206 – Water-Saving Irrigation Technologies; 70811204 – Agricultural Water Supply Engineering Systems and Structures; 70812309 – Pasture Melioration (Master’s degree programs). The first young specialists of the department were assigned to various sectors of the national economy starting from 2011 in the specialty “Water Management and Melioration.” Currently, they and their colleagues are working as leading specialists in various sectors of the Republic. The department has modernly equipped classrooms, laboratories, and branch departments established at production enterprises. In 2024–2025, 1 DSc and 7 PhD dissertations were defended at the department. The main composition of the department consists of young specialists, with an average age of 41. Currently, 18 doctoral candidates and 3 independent researchers are conducting research work on PhD and DSc dissertations. Their defenses are planned for 2025–2027. During its activity, the department has published 2 textbooks and teaching manuals for vocational colleges, 9 textbooks and more than 10 teaching manuals for higher education institutions, and obtained more than 10 copyright certificates for software products.
The department has 21 штат units, of which 16 are teaching staff. In the 2025–2026 academic year, the department’s staff included 5 Doctors of Science (professors), 8 PhD holders, 3 senior lecturers, 4 assistants, and 3 trainee teachers, who carried out educational-methodological, scientific-research, and spiritual-educational activities. The scientific potential of the department is 59.2%, and the average age of the teaching staff is 41, with the majority being young specialists.

International cooperation relations

  1. In order to ensure the implementation of the tasks defined in the State Program for the implementation of the Action Strategy on the five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017–2021, approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PF-5953 dated March 2, 2020, in the “Year of Development of Science, Enlightenment and Digital Economy”, Professor Khamidov Akhmad Muxammadxonovich of Humboldt University of Germany and the "ZALF" Institute of Landscape Agro-Technologies Research has been invited to the department and has been teaching students and master’s degree students. Also, the basic doctoral student of the “Irrigation and Melioration” Department, Qudratov Maruf Rustamovich, completed an internship in the Slovak Republic at the UNIVERSITY OF ORESOV RECTORATE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS OFFICE within the framework of the CONFIRMATION OF ERASMUS+ STUDENT SHORT-TERM MOBILITY FOR TRAINEESHIP project.
The “Irrigation and Melioration” Department plans to send 4 professors and teachers for a short-term internship to Istanbul Technical University in Turkey in the 2025–2026 academic year and to sign a memorandum of cooperation aimed at ensuring knowledge transfer based on the transition of the higher education process to a digital format, the wide introduction of digital educational technologies, and the formation of knowledge, competencies, skills, and qualifications taking into account the individual characteristics of each learner.
