Based on Order No. U-564 dated September 5, 2024, issued by the Rector of Bukhara Engineering and Technology Institute, the departments “Innovative Technologies of the Garment Industry”, “Leather Goods Technology and Design”, and “Textile Products Technology” were merged, and the Department of “Light Industry Engineering and Design” was established. The department has a long-standing history of training engineering technologists since 1979, originating from the “Spinning of Natural and Chemical Fibers” department, and since 1982 from the Department of Light Industry Technology and Equipment. Students have been admitted to full-time, evening, and part-time programs in these specialties. Currently, the department is headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor F.F. Kazakov.

The department employs 3 Doctors of Science (Professors), 2 Candidates of Science (Professors), 7 Candidates of Science (Associate Professors), 27 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) – Associate Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 7 Senior Lecturers, and 15 Assistant Lecturers who provide education to students. Bukhara State Technical University actively operates in the field of international cooperation and has established strong partnerships with a number of foreign higher education institutions. Currently, the university cooperates with the following countries and their leading universities: Tajikistan Technological University – based on a five-year cooperation agreement starting from April 1, 2025, collaboration is carried out within the framework of scientific research, exchange of faculty members and students, and joint projects. Almaty Technological University (Republic of Kazakhstan) – since 2024, joint educational programs, scientific seminars, and internship projects have been implemented within the framework of a five-year international cooperation agreement. South Kazakhstan University – a five-year cooperation agreement was established on March 13, 2023, based on Agreement No. 372-86. Within the framework of this agreement, scientific exchange and experience sharing in teaching methodologies have been organized. Antalya Bilim University (Republic of Turkey) – since April 26, 2023, academic exchange programs, joint scientific conferences, and student programs have been implemented based on a five-year cooperation agreement. Vitebsk State Technological University (Republic of Belarus) – based on a five-year international cooperation agreement signed on April 5, 2023, joint research is being conducted in technological fields. Kostroma State University (Russian Federation) – since October 14, 2023, cooperation has been carried out within a five-year agreement in the fields of engineering, technology, and information and communication technologies. These collaborations contribute to enhancing the international reputation of the department, developing innovative education, and implementing modern scientific experience into practice. In addition, contacts have been established with higher education institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan and other training participants to participate in future projects and to develop scientific and educational cooperation in various fields.
1. Selection and formation of candidates for sending faculty members to foreign higher education institutions ranked in the TOP-500 and research centers for targeted doctoral studies or research internships.
2. Increasing the scientific potential of the department to 70% and raising the share of faculty members holding national or international foreign language proficiency certificates to 30%.
3. Establishment of one spin-off enterprise corresponding to the department’s educational profile and organization of student internships at this LLC enterprise or its workshops.
4. Increasing the share of contractual research projects and the level of commercialization by forming a database of doctoral (PhD and DSc) and master’s thesis topics in technical fields in accordance with local production needs.
5. Development of research activities based on the experience of developed foreign countries and increasing the volume of international grants within the framework of joint research projects.
6. Implementation of foreign investment by carrying out existing departmental projects jointly with international partners.
7. Development of state grants within the framework of international grants and fundamental and applied research projects.
8. Increasing the volume of funds obtained from research conducted based on sectoral demands, service activities, and services provided through the cooperation.uz platform.
